When a father couldn’t afford to be reunited with his daughter in Portland, his generous coworkers surprised him with an all-expense paid trip! What an incredible gift, and it brought the father to tears.
Todd Palmer’s daughter, Sydney, was playing in the NCAA basketball tournament in Portland, Oregon. As much as he wanted to be there, Todd did not have the vacation time or the money to fund the cross-country trip. That’s when his sweet coworkers stepped in.
“That kind of hit some of us a little bit hard,” explains one of his coworkers. “That dad couldn’t be with his daughter to celebrate that kind of moment. So, we as a collective group called your sister, Rhonda, who is a travel agent…We talked to your principal and your wife…And we want to send you as a gift from this organization from the pockets of its individual members.”
As Todd’s coworker is explaining the planning that went into this surprise, Todd just cannot believe what is happening. He keeps shaking his head and wiping away his tears. He is completely overwhelmed by his coworkers’ generosity!
“We’ve already purchased your airline ticket. You leave Friday morning for the city of Portland. You come back on Sunday…Jordan is going to give you some spending cash so that you can Uber, so that you can eat, and so you can do all of those things without one bit of worry.”
Todd must have felt incredibly blessed by such a thoughtful gift from his coworkers! And his daughter, Sydney, was extremely grateful as well. How great it must have been to have her dad there with her, sharing in such a special moment together.
“I was just kind of overwhelmed with joy,” she says. “Because people are so good.”
What a great story to remind us to live our lives with a generous heart!
Little Anwen is a child prodigy pianist and, today, she’s sharing her incredible talent on Little Big Shots.
This popular television program showcases children and their incredible talent. These skilled performers come from every corner of the world and it is truly amazing to see them shine.
Today, we’re meeting Anwen and her talent is awe-inspiring. Anwen was just six years old when she was accepted into Julliard, a prestigious performing arts school in New York.
She was the youngest person to ever be admitted and that is a testament to her skill and talent. As Anwen plays on stage, the audience looks on in amazement.
I know that it takes so much time and practice in order to perfect these numbers but Anwen shows no signs of difficulty. Note after note, she continues to flawlessly hit the keys on the piano.
It always amazes me to see children stepping up to an instrument and performing just like an adult, or even better. When we see kids, we don’t expect them to be at the same level as an older performer. But sometimes, a child with a rare gift emerges and completely blows everyone away.
That’s exactly what is happening with Anwen on Little Big Shots. Her talents have surpassed those around her and she’s even outperforming other experts in the field.
If she’s already this good right now, I cannot imagine what she will sound like in the future. Anwen certainly won over our hearts and I hope we continue to hear more from this talented and adorable pianist.
It was a heartwarming moment captured on camera when this niece asks her uncle with Down Syndrome to go to the prom.
45-year-old Mark has never been to the prom before. So, when it came time for his niece’s high school dance, she decided to pull off the ultimate promposal.
Promposals are a recent sensation that has taken the Internet by storm. Teens will come with elaborate ways to ask someone to go to prom and, usually, take a video of the moment.
These promposals can range from a sign on a poster board to a full on flash mob outside of the school. But of all the ones I’ve seen, none have touched my heart quite like this one.
Just watch as Uncle Marky is blindfolded and led outside. When he finally uncovers his eyes, he sees his loving niece holding a decorated sign and balloons. In big letters, she wrote the words ‘Will you go to prom with me?”
As Mark read the sign, he immediately started to light up. Then, he gave his niece an enthusiastic ‘yes!’ This will be the very first time Mark attends prom and it’s definitely going to be a night to remember.
I think it is so sweet that his niece would think of him during this special moment in her high school life. This just goes to show the loving and caring nature of this teenager. Who else was wiping away a few tears when these two shared a sweet embrace?
The Flakefleet Primary School earned the first golden buzzer of the season when this children’s choir performed a rousing Queen audition on Britain’s Got Talent.
Headteacher David McPartlin leads this incredible group of talented students. When they arrived on stage, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. There were only 5 students and they looked a bit apprehensive. But when the music started, everything changed in an instant. The choir starts to belt out the iconic lyrics to ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ from Queen.
“Tonight, I'm gonna have myself a real good time
I feel alive and the world I'll turn it inside out, yeah
And floating around in ecstasy
So don't stop me now don't stop me
'Cause I'm having a good time, having a good time”
Students start to appear from both sides of the stage and that’s when the fun begins. There are all kinds of costumes and acrobatics happening across the floor while the choir continues to sing.
One judge described the audition by saying, “That was absolute chaos and absolute joy.” But it was judge David Walliams who was led to tears by the performance.
“This is just one of the most joyous things I’ve ever seen and I think you’ve just made all our hearts soar today. And it’s what you want your childhood to have been like and what your children’s childhood to be like, which is just full of unbridled joy.”
After a reaction like that, there was only one thing left for David to do. He reached over and pressed the golden buzzer sending The Flakefleet Primary School straight through to the live shows.
Hope For Paws has done it again with another great animal rescue! This time around they rescued a pregnant dog living on the streets of L.A.
For four months, a compassionate woman named Sonya fed the stray dog. She named her Sally and noticed that she was pregnant. That’s when she gave Hope For Paws a call to help her get Sally off the streets.
The rescue mission started with leading Sally to an enclosed area. This way they would be able to leash up the dog safely without her running out into the street. The dog was scared at first to be closed in and was very timid when she was around people. It took patience and a helpful plastic gate, but after some time had passed, the rescuers were able to contain Sally and put a leash on her.
As soon as Sonya started petting and hugging Sally she calmed down. They took the dog to get a nice bath in preparation for her labor. How relieved Sally must have felt to be off the streets and have a safe place to stay and deliver her puppies!
After getting cleaned up, Sally was taken to her foster home, which was found through The Lovejoy Foundation. She then gave birth to four adorable puppies! Their names are Mustang, Wilson, Nova, and Chevy. And to think that if Sally hadn’t been rescued, she would have given birth to those sweet, little puppies on the street. Thank goodness that wasn’t the case and the puppies weren’t exposed to any danger.
What a joy dogs and puppies are! And how wonderful to see God’s precious creatures rescued and placed in safe, loving homes. We’re praying that Sally and her puppies will be adopted soon and find a home with a new family.
You may not believe it, but this roller-skating queen is 81-years old! And she stays youthful by trying to go to the skating rink at least twice a week.
Edna Davoll currently lives in Bronx, New York but grew up roller skating in Columbus, South Carolina. She fell in love with roller skating as a young girl, and it is still one of her favorite activities to do.
“When I’m skating, it’s such a joy! It’s like your heart rate goes up, and you feel like you had a good workout afterwards,” explains Edna.
Clearly Edna has found a great activity to help her stay youthful! When you watch her on her roller skates, she is so graceful and nimble while she skates all over the floor.
Throughout the years, Edna has many fond memories from going to the roller rink.
“Back in 1980, the rinks were filled to capacity. Music was good and everybody had good attitudes and was there to enjoy. We would go 4 or 5 times a week because they had so many skating rinks at that time.”
But in this day and age, the popularity of roller-skating rinks has somewhat decreased. “Unfortunately, so many rinks have closed down in the last 10-15 years,” says Edna. “I just hope somewhere along the way that some organization will come and reopen some of the rinks for the younger kids so that they can have the pleasure that I had.”
By the looks of it, Edna doesn’t seem to be giving up roller skating anytime soon. And good for her!
“I’m going to go until I can’t go anymore,” she declares. “It keeps me groovy, it keeps me moving. When you leave the skating rink you feel like you have no worries in the world.”
What an inspiration! She just goes to show us that age is just a number. And when you find something that’s good for you and you love doing it, keep it up for as long as you can!
Above Water,’ on The Voice. Avril stepped away from the music scene for five years while she fought a difficult battle with Lyme Disease. Once her health improved, Avril penned this song about leaning on her faith in tough times.
“God, keep my head above water
Don't let me drown, it gets harder
I'll meet you there at the altar
As I fall down to my knees”
Today, Selkii and Cecily Hennigan are stepping onto The Voice stage for a beautiful duet of this inspirational song.
These two have already won a spot on Team Blake but, now, they’ve reached the battle rounds where contestants face off against one another while singing a duet.
Afterwards, the coaches will weigh in with their comments and decide who will move on to the next round of competition. Both of these powerhouse vocalists bring something special to the table and every single note of ‘Head Above Water’ is performed flawlessly.
“God, keep my head above water
I lose my breath at the bottom
Come rescue me, I'll be waiting
I'm too young to fall asleep”
This is such a personal song and a true anthem for those fighting any kind of battle. Sometimes, we need a reminder that only God can step in and save us. These powerful lyrics truly give us a renewed sense of hope and strength.
I’m so glad that this beautiful song was performed on national television for the whole world to hear. Coach Blake certainly has a tough decision to make after this battle round duet.
Rebecca Howell and David Owens perform a beautiful duet of ‘Unchained Melody’ on The Voice during the battle rounds.
These two contestants made it past the initial audition and both joined Team Kelly Clarkson. Now, they’ve got to fight for their spot during the battle rounds where contestants face off against one another while singing a duet.
Afterwards, the coaches will weigh in with their comments and then decide who will move on to the next round of competition. Rebecca and David are both talented vocalists.
Today, they’re coming together for an awe-inspiring performance of ‘Unchained Melody’ by The Righteous Brothers.
“Oh, my love, my darling
I've hungered for your touch
A long, lonely time
Time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love to me”
Both of these contestants have a big vocal range and they easily hit the high notes. This iconic song isn’t an easy one to cover, but they pull it off flawlessly. Just watch as all the coaches listen in stunned silence at these incredible voices coming from the stage.
I know this is supposed to be a face off but this performance is such an amazing duet. I have no idea how Kelly made a decision between these two powerhouses, but it must’ve been extremely tough.
With a voice like that, I know we haven’t seen the last of David Owens. But, for now, we can look forward to Rebecca’s next performance in the live cross battles.
