Baptisim

Saint Genesius of Rome is the Roman Catholic patron saint of comedians, dancers, actors, musicians, printers, and torture victims. He was an actor in many plays that mocked Christianity. While performing a piece mocking baptism, Genesius had a sudden conversion experience on stage and refused to renounce his faith even at the orders of emperor Diocletian. He was then martyred by beheading. His feast day is August 25th

Unbelief Challenges Faith

If God had always done exactly what you had asked of Him, you would have no problem with faith. Your faith in God would remain unchallenged.

But your faith in God has been challenged. And the challenger is called unbelief. Unbelief is your human nature's direct attack against the true nature of God, trying to convince you that God is not who He says He is.

Faith and Unbelief at War

Haven't you been in situations where you needed to count on God, but didn't think you could? This tension is the battle between faith and unbelief. And unless you understand this tension, you will make a wreck of your relationship with the Lord.
But while it would seem so, unbelief is not the exact opposite of faith—at least not in the way it plays out in our daily lives. While faith has its substance in our spirit (our divine nature), unbelief has its substance in our flesh (our human nature). And both conditions can be (and usually are) present at the same time.
It is critical to your progress (and to your sanity) to understand that just because you are dealing with unbelief “does not” mean that you have no faith. On the other hand, just because you have faith “does not” mean that you won't have to deal with unbelief.
Don't let your unbelief convince you that you don't have any faith. And don't get so cocky that you begin to think your faith in God won't be challenged by unbelief.

Dr. Scott Stewart, Pastor of Agape Church in Little Rock, Arkansas has a series of Q & A videos where he answers questions that have been sent to him. The answers are surprising and enlightening!

Teen Development

Dr. Dobson looks at the early-teen period of physical and social development, and in particular four "extremes" that perennially cause so many children such enormous distress: i.e., the late-maturing boy, the late-maturing girl, the early-maturing girl, and the early-maturing boy.

Unbelief and Faith Don’t Mix

That flood of negative thoughts and emotions which comes against you when you’re trying to have faith in God is called unbelief. Unbelief lives in your flesh. Faith lives in your spirit. Please don't consider unbelief as just a lack of faith—because it isn't. Great faith and great unbelief can go on at the same time. And if you don't treat them as separate conditions you will be unable to bring your faith up to the level that God intends for you.

Polluting Faith with Unbelief

Because God is not intimidated by what we face, we don't have to be intimidated either. He will walk us through our circumstances in a demonstration of His love toward us. He has even made it possible for us to have joy and peace as we go through our circumstances with Him.
“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NKJV)
When we add a pain‐killer (in any form) to any request we make of Him, we have mixed two different systems. And we have neutralized faith, because faith in God plus anything else is no longer faith. The “anything” we add to faith is called “unbelief” in the Bible.

Making Assumptions

When faith in God appears to result in failure we tend to question God before we ever question ourselves.
How have you responded to your disappointments in faith? Have you lowered God's standards so low that it is as likely for your prayers to be answered as it is likely for the sun to come up each morning? Or have you just grown cynical?
God doesn't want you to lower your standards for faith to the lowest common denominator, and He certainly doesn't want you to be a cynic when it comes to having faith in Him. But He doesn't want you to become an optimist either. He wants you to be a realist, knowing His true nature.
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” (1 John 4:7–11 NKJV)
Run all of your assumptions about the reasons God hasn't responded to you like you wanted Him to respond through this “Love Filter.” In other words, if your assumption doesn't fit with the reality that everything about God is about love, throw your assumption out the window.

Think About It 34 My Mother's Day Gift

Mother's Day Gift

Turning on the Lights

As long as we insist on associating faith in God with persuading God to do things for us, it is as if we are trying to make our way through life in the dark. When I stumble around in the dark, so to speak, all that comes out of my mouth is, “God! I need …! I need …!” If I'm hungry it's, “God, I need some food!” as I search about for something to eat—hoping I'll grab human food instead of dog food. If I need to get out of a storm it's, “God, I need some shelter!” as I run around looking for someplace dry—hoping I'll find a place of safety instead of a place of danger.
Stumbling around in the dark, bouncing from one circumstance to another, crying out to God, “I need …! I need …!” is not faith. Faith is turning on the light switch, so I can see what is true and what is not true. Faith is seeing what surrounds me in the light of truth.
And the truth is that God knows what I need.
“If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith? And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:28–32 NKJV)
“And your Father knows that you need these things,” is one of the most
