Feel the Christmas spirit as you hear this father-daughter duo sing the classic tune, ‘White Christmas.’ This holiday favorite was written by Irving Berlin for the 1942 film ‘Holiday Inn.’ It was performed as a duet between legendary vocalist Bing Crosby and Marjorie Reynolds. The song went on to spur a musical of the same name also starring Bing. The film ‘White Christmas’ was the highest grossing movie of 1954. “I'm dreaming of a white Christmas Just like the ones I used to know Where the treetops glisten and children listen To hear sleigh bells in the snow” Mat and Savanna Shaw are a talented father-daughter pair that enjoy singing together. When COVID forced the world inside, the duo decided to record themselves singing and post it online. They had no idea that their videos would go viral and people would be requesting more and more. Now, Mat and Savanna have a growing YouTube channel and an album on the way full of our favorite covers. And today, we are in for a wintry treat as they perform the holiday classic ‘White Christmas.’ Just listen as their voices beautifully belt out these iconic lyrics. “I'm dreaming of a white Christmas With every Christmas card I write May your days be merry and bright And may all your Christmases be white” Isaiah 9:6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Listen to this talented teen sing an incredible cover of ‘I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.’ You don’t want to miss this! Believe it or not, Lucy Thomas is only 17 years old and made a name for herself a few years ago on UK’s The Voice Kids. Even though she didn’t win the show, she walked away with a record deal. This young powerhouse has released three albums since! On her most recent album, Lucy performs her rendition of ‘I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing’ and absolutely nails it! This easily recognizable tune was written by Diane Warren, an award-winning songwriter. She intended the song to be for a voice like Celine Dion, but it wound up in the hands of Aerosmith. The rock band recorded it in ‘98 for the iconic suspense film, Armageddon. Both the musician and movie are surprising choices when you read over the romantic lyrics. I just want to hold you close I feel your heart so close to mine And just stay here in this moment For all of the rest of time Although beautifully poetic, it does seem a bit misplaced! Regardless, Aerosmith hit the nail on the head with this song. Originally, the song was a radio special, but its success prompted the record studio to release it commercially. I bet there’s not one person above the age of 25 that doesn’t recognize it! Definitely a classic. Since Lucy has sung plenty of ballads, she put her own twist on this classic rock song. And she did not disappoint! This young woman has such a beautiful gift and shares it every day with the world. We can’t wait to see what songs she covers next! As every man has received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1 Peter 4:10

Eastern Idaho’s very own Secret Santa surprises one daycare worker who walks to work every day, and, in the process, he kicks off her holiday in a wonderful way! Idaho is known as “the Gem State,” and they have definitely got one among them! An anonymous gentleman, referred to as “Secret Santa,” is on a mission to gift $1 million to deserving folks in his community. And, he has sought the help of the East Idaho News to carry out his gift-giving assignments. How cool is that! Here we see Nate Eaton as he visits one very special lady at the daycare where she works in Rexburg. However, Nate first takes a few minutes to explain why Jaime has been selected to be one of Secret Santa’s recipients. Jaime has been described as “kind” and “sweet,” and she is very dedicated to her work teaching and caring for the children in her charge. Jaime has a wonderful singing voice, and she’s a graduate of BYU-Idaho. But, Jaime faces considerable challenges. Jaime has health concerns, which prevent her from driving. So, she walks each day from her apartment to her community’s Walmart shuttle, takes the shuttle to work, and reverses the process at the end of each day. Idaho weather can get pretty nasty, but Jaime walks through ice and snow nonetheless. And, while Jaime loves to sing, she also has partial hearing loss. After sharing a bit about Jaime, Nate goes into Jaime’s work to meet her and make her day! It takes just a few seconds to see that Nate’s description of Jaime is clearly true. She does seem very kind and sweet indeed! Nate gives Jaime three gifts, and she appears more touched by each one. The first is $1,000 to spend on groceries, which can be ordered and delivered to her home. The second is $1,000 to use at PetSmart. This gift is primarily for Emmett, Jaime’s service dog, and roommate. That’s a lot of dog food! Emmett may even get some treats or toys in his stocking! Finally, Jaime is given $1,000 to use with Uber’s ride service. Can you imagine how much nicer winter in Rexburg will be for Jaime this year! Jaime has the most unassuming and soft-spoken manner—a beautiful lady inside and out! If Secret Santa is an East Idaho gem, then it certainly seems he found a treasure in Jaime! “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.” Matthew 6:2

This is one of the most inspiring videos that I have ever seen. A 105-year-old woman runs 100 meters and sets a record. At the start of the video, the woman in the USA shirt is determined on the track as many fans cheer her on. The gun shoots and she begins to run. Julia Hawkins is her name and she is 105 years old, living in Louisiana. She shares that she “does many other wonderful things and this is just a drop in the bucket.” Her run was 63 seconds. As she finishes, loved ones at the finish line embrace her. Julia says that she is so happy. The woman is incredible. She trains by jogging a mile a day in her neighborhood. Julia’s husband passed away years ago. She says that she “could not imagine being this old and without him, it is not the same. It’s not quite as wonderful.” Julia runs and gardens to keep herself busy. She tells of the touching story of her husband passing away in his sleep after he sang love songs to her. This video has gone viral for good reason. Julia Hawkins is motivating to watch and learn from in this clip. Viewing this encourages us in our race of faith to run with endurance and trust Jesus every step of the way. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross,scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

This video is absolutely encouraging in our faith. Teens help a homeless man buy food and they end up praying together. In this video, a group of teenagers is giving back. They are seen paying for a man’s groceries. Then, they share how they went out into their community to help the homeless. They gave out food, gift cards, and words of encouragement. Then, suddenly a security guard connected the boys with a man named Bryce who just got out of rehab. The teens took him to get groceries, I.D., and housing. When they were leaving, Bryce asked the teens if they believed in God. First, we see Bryce shopping with the boys and putting things he enjoys eating into his cart. Then, they go to buy homes essentials and medical needs. After they purchase what the man needs, they all head out of the store and run into their security guard friend Carlos. Carlos proceeds to be vulnerable and tells Bryce that he recovered from addiction and it was possible for Bryce too. Carlos tells him to turn the need over to God and it will fill the void. Bryce asks, “Why did you come to help me?” The teen responds, “Literally, all God.” The teens invite Bryce to be prayed for and the group huddles to pray. The teen prays a powerful and faith-filled prayer. It is amazing to see how a loving community of Christ-followers can impact others. How are you reaching out and praying for others today? “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” James 5:16

In an act of kindness, country star Vince Gill gifts new instruments to band students after a devastating flood. Waverly, Tennessee had over 17 inches of rain in 8 hours over the summer, and the floods caused devastating damage all over the community. Homes, businesses, and schools were destroyed, and it is taking a while for all the destruction to be repaired. One man wanted to help lift the spirits of the community, and that person was country music star Vince Gill! “You just sit there and shake your head,” said Vince Gill. “What can we do to help out?” Since replacing band instruments at the junior and senior high school had a low priority after all the destruction that the floods left behind, Vince knew that he wanted to help out in that way. He was able to donate 40 boxed up shiny and new band instruments to the school, and all of the band students were extremely grateful! During a time when these students are sleeping in borrowed beds and living in temporary places after their homes were destroyed, having these new instruments to play really encouraged them during this difficult time. The students learned about Vince Gill’s donation at a school assembly, and they were able to use the new instruments and play for the school. “How delightful! A blessing from Vince Gill!” comments one person on YouTube after hearing about the story. “We need more musicians, celebrities, and companies to be this kind all of the time!” “Wow! What a gift!! We need more great Americans like Vince,” writes another person online. Vince goes on to talk about kindness and how important it is to show to others. “I often feel like we should be like this all the time, you know. That’s my dream,” he shares. “Let’s not just be kind when somebody’s struggling, let’s just be kind.” God bless Vince Gill and his generosity to these music students!

These neighbors are heroes because of their quick thinking in a dramatic home fire rescue. This video isn’t for the faint of heart as it captured footage of two brave neighbors carrying an elderly woman from her burning home. And the voice you can hear on the video--that’s Lariana Garvis who organized the rescue. She was on her way home from an outing at the park with her two sons in the car. As she turned down her street, she immediately saw that the home of one of her neighbors was on fire. Lariana knew the elderly woman in late 90’s, and frail. She saw the size of the fire and knew there was no way her neighbor could get out on her own. As the house began to go up in flames Lariana called for help and then flagged down other neighbors by the name of Jay and Tom Kehoe. The men broke down the door as Lariana captured the dramatic rescue on video. Seconds later, Jay and Tom carried out the woman who was still in her favorite teal chair. The men chose to use the chair as a stretcher to prevent the elderly woman from any more injuries or bruising. The video captures broken windows that exploded from the heat of the fire and smoke billowing into the sky. The homeowner’s off-white sweater was singed from flames that had crept into the living room. As she was being carried out, Lariana, Jay, and Tom reassured her they would go back and get her precious dog who had been left behind. Thank God for these three good samaritans who were in the right place at the right time. They saved not one, but two lives. These neighbors were definitely God’s angels! They were willing to lay down their lives for someone who wasn’t able to save herself. “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends,” John 15:13

Watch this proud dog as he happily helps bring the family’s groceries inside. What a good, helpful boy! You’ve probably seen a bunch of clever dogs doing some pretty unique tricks across the internet like grabbing a drink for their owners or opening a door. You might’ve even seen a dog help bring shopping bags in from the car like this pup. But apparently, this pup wasn’t trained to do this! Although Guster the lab is clearly an intelligent pup, his family hadn’t specifically trained him to help with the groceries. His mom said, “My daughter was helping me carry in groceries from the car at our home. Guster tried grabbing a sack out of her hands, so she placed a sack in his mouth and told him to take it to Mommy.” And Guster knew exactly what to do. It seemed like a fun little game for him! He obviously knew he was pleasing his humans and being the best boy. Just look at his waddle with his front legs walking farther apart than usual to make room for the bags. I think it’s also super important to notice that happy wagging tail! He’s so adorable — I almost can’t bear to watch his little puppy prances! Guster’s mom said he was more than happy to do it again and again. What a perfect way to make such a mundane task more enjoyable for everyone! What’s funnier is Guster’s furry sibling just overseeing his work. It’s more like Guster is being supervised rather than the other dog just not understanding what’s going on. Either way, he couldn’t care less! Just a happy boy lending a helping hand! I hope the family gave him the biggest treat and plenty of scratches — he deserves all of that and more for all of his hard work!
