'You've Got A Friend' Southern Raised Bluegrass

Enjoy this unique rendition of ‘You’ve Got A Friend’ from the talented siblings of Southern Raised Bluegrass. This Carole King classic became a smash hit after it’s release in 1971. The song spurned multiple covers from notable artists including James Taylor, Michael Jackson and Dusty Springfield. “You just call out my name And you know wherever I am I'll come running, to see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there You've got a friend” Siblings Lindsay, Sarah, Emily and Matt make up the Southern Raised Bluegrass band. The group was raised in the Ozark Mountains and they have blended their traditional music upbringing with multiple genres and their deep-rooted faith. They describe themselves as creating a ‘Southern Raised trademark sound where classical meets bluegrass and city streets meets country roads. SR has morphed a progressive sound that spans Christian Country/ Bluegrass, Celtic and Classical.’ Today, they’re taking on the beloved classic ‘You’ve Got A Friend’ and it’s the perfect compliment to their unique vocals and sound. “Ain't it good to know you've got a friend? Ain't it good to know, ain't it good to know, ain't it good to know You've got a friend?” When I hear these words, I’m instantly transported back in time. It’s so refreshing to watch the younger generation pay tribute to the timeless songs of the past. This was just the dose of nostalgia that my heart needed to hear today. What about you?

New Zealand Child Singer Performs 'Hallelujah' On Little Big Shots

On the inspiring show Little Big Shots, a 13-year-old boy has flown all the way from New Zealand to share his talent by singing ‘Hallelujah’ for the audience. The boy’s name is Selevasio, and he lives in New Zealand but is originally from Tonga. Before he sings, Selevasio and the host share a conversation. The host asked him what he loves about singing. “Well, I think I just love everything about it,” he says. “I just try to share it as much as I can.” Then Selevasio sweetly adds, “I wouldn’t be here today without my mom.” The two then banter back and forth about rugby, and the young man shares that he used to play rugby a lot. “Our team was actually very good,” Selevasio shares. “We even made the newspaper for being undefeated for more than 150 games.” He goes on to talk about how he is the oldest sibling and has one younger sister and two younger brothers. Selevasio shares how he would love to be a professional singer and make an album one day. He has actually been working on an original song! What a dedicated young man! Then Selevasio confidently takes the stage and sings the song ‘Hallelujah.’ “Now, I've heard there was a secret chord that David played, and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do you? It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth The minor fall, the major lift, the baffled king composing Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah” What a stunning performance by this young man! Selevasio has such an incredibly beautiful voice, and it is wonderful to see him sharing his amazing talent with the world. May he always pursue his passions and use his God-given talents to bring joy and happiness to those around him!

'Take Me Home, Country Roads' The Petersens Bluegrass Performance

In this beautiful performance, the bluegrass band called The Petersens plays the popular song ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ by John Denver. “Almost heaven, West Virginia,Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River Life is old there, older than the trees, younger than the mountains, growin' like a breeze Country roads, take me home to the place I belong West Virginia, mountain mama, take me home, country roads” “It was about time we covered this John Denver classic!” says The Petersens on their YouTube page. “Our dad actually grew up in West Virginia and some of our fondest childhood memories take place in those hills. Not to mention, John Denver is a family favorite. We hope you enjoy this song as much as we do!” They filmed this music video in Branson, MO at Sycamore Creek Family Ranch, which is owned by friends of the Petersens. This family band performs full-time in Branson, MO. The group consists of Katie Petersen on fiddle, Ellen Petersen on banjo, Matt Petersen on guitar, Julianne Petersen on mandolin, Karen Petersen on bass, and Emmett Franz on dobro. They all are very talented, and they did such a great job making this video! “I have never heard anything more heavenly,” comments one person on their YouTube page. “As an older gent still existing in an ever-changing world, it's refreshing to see a mainly younger generation group that can interpret a song written well before they were born, re-arrange it in a bluegrass style, but perhaps even adding more feeling and emotion than the original,” writes another person on YouTube. “The harmony and feel, different than the original, but still the same. I feel sure that John would be smiling! You are a shining light so needed in our times. Thank you!” May the Petersens keep shining their light and use their gifts to spread joy to those around them!
