Daily Devotion for 29Oct

John 3:16 is a verse that we have all heard before, however, the deeper question that emanates from this verse is this: How will you respond? #toughquestionsforgod #dailydevotion #toughquestionsforgoddailydevotions

Fraternity Welcomes College Student with Intellectual Disability with Open Arms

A fraternity welcomed a college student with an intellectual disability with open arms. Everyone wants to be with people and in a place where they feel loved and accepted and a sense of belonging. In a beautiful act of kindness, acceptance and love, a fraternity did just that for one young man.

The world is often a cold, cruel and unkind place. People normally treat each other with pure, unfiltered hatred and contempt. Don’t believe me? Simply look at social media and the plethora of snarky, hateful and profanity-filled comments and responses. At times, it can feel that most people’s first instinct toward someone is to react with hate and vindictiveness.

That kind of treatment does nothing good for anyone, the individual receiving it or the person doling out the hate and contempt. Christians are called to love our neighbors. Jesus Christ modeled and lived this out by caring for and healing anyone and everyone. He met people where they were and fulfilled their physical or spiritual needs.

In a clip posted on YouTube, a group of young men at Clemson University – a fraternity – were the first in their school’s history to add a young man from the ClemsonLife program. Charlie McGee, a junior at the South Carolina school, wanted nothing more than to join a fraternity.

He said he wanted to be part of a fraternity to experience the brotherhood and the joy of being included and accepted by such a group. Joy was precisely what Charlie felt when he learned that he had been welcomed into the fraternity.

After opening his acceptance letter, Charlie sprinted, actually running out of his shoes, to greet his new fraternity brothers. Charlie was literally met by the open arms of the young men excited to add him to their group.

“That was one of the coolest moments at Clemson that we’ve had, was seeing that right there,” a fraternity member said.

It was a beautiful, tear-jerking moment.

Ephesians 4:32 “And be kind to one another, full of pity, having forgiveness for one another, even as God in Christ had forgiveness for you.”

Chris Pratt and Wife Share Heartwarming Moment on Air

Actor Chris Pratt and his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, shared a heartwarming moment live on television. It was sweet and unexpected, as Katherine did not anticipate seeing her movie star husband greeting and talking to her on TV. It’s such a cute and endearing moment between the husband and wife.

Chris Pratt is one of the biggest movie stars on the planet. Nearly every one of his movies and television shows becomes a hit with fans and, at times, even with the critics. People flocked to the theaters to see Chris in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films. His “Jurassic Park” flicks also fared very well at the box office, scoring millions of dollars. And who could forget Chris as the hilarious, sweet, messy and well-intentioned Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation?

Despite his success and international fame, Chris, who has spoken openly about his Christian faith several times, doesn’t seem to have let fame go to his head. He seems to be one of the nicest guys in all of Hollywood. He is constantly doing something that proves he is one of the most genuine and caring people on the big screen. How could you not like him?

In a clip posted on social media, Chris surprised his wife on the Today Show. According to Yahoo, Katherine, a guest correspondent for the popular morning show, was reporting her story about sibling rivalry when she received the surprise.

Near the end of her story, Katherine, who was in Los Angeles at the time, when a live video feed of her husband, Chris, who was in New York, appeared on screen. Chris had nothing but praise for his wife, who is pregnant with the couple’s third child.

“Hi, honey! Good job! That was so good,” Chris said.

Taken aback by the surprise, Katherine simply responded, “Thank you.”

Chris then proceeded to ask her how she was feeling.

“I feel great,” she said. “Just hope not to go into labor before you get home.”

They confirmed that Katherine has about two weeks before she is due. Hopefully, Chris can get back home before that time.

Colossians 3:19 “Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.”

Daily Devotion for 25Oct

To be “tested” is not normally something we enjoy, but it is necessary in order to grow at times, especially when it comes to faith. Agree, or disagree? #toughquestionsforgod #dailydevotion #toughquestionsforgoddailydevotions

Carol Burnett Reflects on Her Iconic Career in a Heartfelt Trip Down Memory Lane

The legendary Carol Burnett reflected on her iconic career in a heartfelt trip down memory lane. Carol is an incredibly talented woman who has kept audiences laughing for decades. Her career has been marked by one memorable role after another.

Comedy is such a subjective thing. It’s much more difficult than drama. What makes one person laugh will not always be the thing that causes the next person to burst into laughter. Not everyone has the same sense of humor.

However, with her talent, quick wit and charm, Carol Burnett has kept audiences rolling with laughter for decades. She is in a class of her own and second to none. She has repeatedly proved this throughout her career, which has included “Annie” and The Carol Burnett Show.

In a clip posted on YouTube, Carol is put to the test. She is given a line she said from a film or television show she was in and must name that movie or show. Some she gets some right, and others she does not, but surprisingly, she remembers more than she doesn’t. However, she provides interesting facts and stories about each television show or movie with each answer.

The first line she is given, which she gets right, is from “Annie.” Carol then discusses one significant difference between the movie and the stage play.

Later in the clip, she mentions working on a film with the late Walter Matthau and how she was intimidated by and nervous around him until she went to lunch with him.

“He was a little bit intimidating at first,” Carol said. “I remember; I guess I can tell this story. He said, ‘Ok, I’m going to take you to lunch.’ And I was kind of nervous because he was big screen, and I was little screen. He said, ‘So, how come you do all this television crap?’”

At that moment, Carol said she was no longer nervous around him. Her response to him was hilarious.

I said, ‘Well, Walter.’ He said, ‘Yeah, you can call me Walter.’ I said, ‘How?’ He was doing movies all the time at that point. ‘How many movies do you do a year?’ He said, ‘Well, at least two, two and a half movies.’ I said, ‘How long does it take you to make them? 10 weeks, 12 weeks?’ He said, ‘Yeah, like 10, 12 weeks.’ I said, ‘Are they all great, or are some of them kind of crappy?’ He said, ‘Some of them are kind of crappy.’ I said, ‘Well, look at it this way, it takes you 10 weeks to make crap. It takes me five days.’”

Proverbs 17:22 “A glad heart makes a healthy body, but a crushed spirit makes the bones dry.”

Quick-Thinking Bus Passengers Take Charge During Driver’s Medical Emergency

It is always encouraging to hear stories about everyday heroes. Check out this video where quick-thinking bus passengers take charge during a driver’s medical emergency.

The video begins with a narrator sharing how the bus driver passes out on his morning route. We then see footage of the bus from a security camera.

An alarm sounds on the bus, and a passenger holding his morning coffee quickly responds by getting up and tending to the driver. He asks if the driver is alright and then another passenger further in the back runs to assist. The second passenger thinks on his feet and jumps into the driver’s seat on the bus. He takes charge and gets the bus under control while the other man tends to the driver.

The way that these passengers responded is nothing short of heroic. The one driving even thinks clearly enough to call the dispatch and update them on what is going on at their bus in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The passenger driving the bus had never driven a bus, but was calm and confident enough to protect those on board and on the road. The driver had a seizure that was being tended to during all of this chaos. The man took charge by driving the bus and helping it to come to a stop at a bus stop safely. His name is Joseph Wood.

In the interview, he shares that that is a big machine that could have hurt a lot of people if it had gotten out of control. These heroic acts saved lives of those in the path and on the bus. In unforeseen situations, we can call upon the Lord to be our help as we look to Him and trust in Him, just like this passenger was given strength to do what he needed to do, God gives us the strength to do the same as well.

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”  Psalm 121:1-2

'The Office' Star Jenna Fischer Shares Her Emotional Cancer Battle

Best known as Pam Beesly, The Office star Jenna Fischer shares her emotional battle with cancer. She opened up about her journey through cancer and how it all started with one simple mammogram that led to words that terrified her. Cancer, especially for someone in the public eye, brings an overwhelming mixture of fear, disbelief, and uncertainty about the future.

For Jenna, hearing the word cancer was like a sudden halt in life’s routine–a moment that shattered the every day and brought her face to face with her own vulnerability. While waiting for her results, she was on a hike when she received the news she had never expected.

“I checked the portal on the hike, and that’s when I saw words like ‘invasive,’ ‘ductal,’ ‘carcinoma,’ ‘malignant,’” she said. “And I was like, ‘Those words sound like cancer words.’” She added, “I think the word that really got me was when we found out that I was triple-positive, and my oncologist said chemotherapy. That was when I really lost it.”

That’s when she was diagnosed with stage one, triple-positive breast cancer. The sheer weight of the word cancer carried with it a whirlwind of questions: How serious is it? Will I survive? How will this affect my family? Instead of being paralyzed in fear, Jenna used her popularity to raise awareness about breast cancer. She shared her journey online after she learned what kind of cancer she had and what the healing journey would look like.

“I knew I would be having surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and then targeted therapies,” she said. One year later, she shares she still has the port in her chest where she received chemotherapy. The most emotional part of her journey was sharing the experience with her two kids and husband. Some days, the most she could do was make it downstairs to have breakfast with her kids while her husband made the school lunches.

The most emotionally challenging part of Jenna’s healing journey was losing her hair. She joked about finally understanding why men comb over their bald spots, trying to find some humor in the situation. Eventually, she started wearing baseball caps to cover the thinning patches. But what truly touched her heart was the support she received from her best friend, who began wearing baseball caps to work as well, making sure Jenna never felt alone in this difficult chapter. It was a small act of friendship that brought immense comfort, reminding her she had friends and family by her side every step of the way.

In moments like this, we’re reminded that God is with us, no matter the diagnosis, the struggle, or the trial. His grace and comfort show up in little moments when we’re alone, getting through one day at a time, and through the friends and family members He puts in our lives. Through it all, we’re reminded we can make it with our overwhelming love and support and family and friends.

Psalm 34:18 "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

Blake Shelton’s Generosity Shines as He Gives Back to His Hometown and High School

Blake Shelton’s generosity shines as he gives back to his hometown and high school. Blake won our hearts years ago when he first stepped onto the stage as a country singer. Known for his deep-rooted hometown personality, it wasn’t a surprise that he would give back to his hometown in a big way.

Growing up Blake would go to his uncle’s house to tinker on his guitar. When his uncle realized Blake had a real talent for music, he took Blake under his wing and taught him. Blake cherishes these memories and wanted to ensure kids in his hometown could follow their musical dreams too. He teamed up with Music Will which donated several music instruments to the school.

“It’s a neat idea and a cool opportunity,” Blake said. “Music is important for everybody, especially for kids.”

On Instagram he showed his home town spirit thanking Music Will and adding that he was happy to be back home and doing something for his community. The video captures all the things Blake is doing to help the school continue its love of teaching music to kids and you can’t help but smile when you see Blake waving to all the kids when he came on stage to make the special announcement about the new additions to the school.

He added, “Honored to have teamed up with @musicwill and go back to my hometown and high school to surprise the kids with some brand new instruments and equipment. Music is so important and it’s really special getting to be part of this and help give the kids this opportunity. Thank you MusicWill!!! Go Ada!!!”

Blake’s fans loved the sweet gesture too. One person added, “Good to see you having a special place in your heart for your old school!”

Another person added, “Oklahoma KING! You sir are human angel!!”

We couldn’t agree more. When we step outside of ourselves, we have the power to make a difference in another person’s life. Way to go, Blake!

Out of the thousands of decisions we make every day, which one is the most important? #toughquestionsforgod #dailydevotion #toughquestionsforgoddailydevotions

Dolly Parton Discusses Prayer and How She Prays Without Ceasing

The legendary Dolly Parton discusses prayer and how she can pray without ceasing.

Reading the Bible is a crucial and necessary activity for every Christian. Through this continual study of God’s Word, we’ll learn more about Him and His plan and purpose for our lives. He’ll also reveal new thoughts, insights and ways to look at select passages of Scripture. It’s possible that while going through verses you’ve read thousands of times, some new thought or way to interpret those verses could suddenly be revealed to you.

But as crucial as getting into God’s Word is, prayer is even more so. Prayer allows us to communicate directly with the Creator of the universe. We are able to share our thoughts, concerns and requests and offer repentance for sins through prayer. We build, maintain and strengthen our relationship with Him through prayer. It’s hard to have a relationship with anyone without regular, consistent communication and God is now different.

God’s Word emphasizes the importance of prayer and communicating with Him in several passages. One passage in the New Testament, a verse in 1 Thessalonians, even instructs Christians to pray without ceasing. In a clip posted on YouTube, Dolly talks about how she can do just that.

“There’s a Scripture in the Bible that says, ‘Pray without ceasing,’ and I used to think that was the silliest thing I ever heard,” Dolly said. “Well, I thought, ‘How do you pray without ceasing?’ But that just means to, to keep that in your mind, to where it’s just planted in there. And then you can kind of always draw from that all through the day.”

She later added how important prayer is in her life.

“And so, you apply that, or I do, to everything I do,” she said. “And so, I think it’s very important to keep that first and foremost, and that keeps you strong, and that keeps you grounded.”

Philippians 4:6 “In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”
