Out of the thousands of decisions we make every day, which one is the most important? #toughquestionsforgod #dailydevotion #toughquestionsforgoddailydevotions

Dolly Parton Discusses Prayer and How She Prays Without Ceasing

The legendary Dolly Parton discusses prayer and how she can pray without ceasing.

Reading the Bible is a crucial and necessary activity for every Christian. Through this continual study of God’s Word, we’ll learn more about Him and His plan and purpose for our lives. He’ll also reveal new thoughts, insights and ways to look at select passages of Scripture. It’s possible that while going through verses you’ve read thousands of times, some new thought or way to interpret those verses could suddenly be revealed to you.

But as crucial as getting into God’s Word is, prayer is even more so. Prayer allows us to communicate directly with the Creator of the universe. We are able to share our thoughts, concerns and requests and offer repentance for sins through prayer. We build, maintain and strengthen our relationship with Him through prayer. It’s hard to have a relationship with anyone without regular, consistent communication and God is now different.

God’s Word emphasizes the importance of prayer and communicating with Him in several passages. One passage in the New Testament, a verse in 1 Thessalonians, even instructs Christians to pray without ceasing. In a clip posted on YouTube, Dolly talks about how she can do just that.

“There’s a Scripture in the Bible that says, ‘Pray without ceasing,’ and I used to think that was the silliest thing I ever heard,” Dolly said. “Well, I thought, ‘How do you pray without ceasing?’ But that just means to, to keep that in your mind, to where it’s just planted in there. And then you can kind of always draw from that all through the day.”

She later added how important prayer is in her life.

“And so, you apply that, or I do, to everything I do,” she said. “And so, I think it’s very important to keep that first and foremost, and that keeps you strong, and that keeps you grounded.”

Philippians 4:6 “In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

Big Brother Saves the Day by Stepping In for Dad at Father-Daughter Dance

One loving big brother saved the day by stepping in for Dad at a father-daughter dance.

Every parent knows that siblings tend to fight. Whether that’s an argument or a physical altercation, siblings often don't see eye to eye, especially when they are little. Not only that, but the frequency of sibling disagreements is alarmingly high. Everything can quickly result in screaming, fighting and tears.

Luckily for parents, as children grow and mature, those fights seem less frequent, and the volume of those fights drops considerably. Sure, they will still not agree on every issue or subject, but there isn’t nearly as much yelling or screaming.

A clip posted on YouTube shows a big brother who wasn’t annoyed, irritated or even upset with his little sister. Instead, this big brother stepped in to save the day and agreed to participate in a father-daughter dance when their father couldn’t attend. He showed up in a big way for his little sister.

As the children’s mother explains, her daughter attends a dance studio that puts on an annual father-daughter dance. Well, the children’s father was out of town for work and unable to take his little girl. The girl was upset about having to miss out on the dance.

But the dance studio came up with an idea. They knew she had an older brother and said he was welcome to participate in the dance with his little sister.

Surprisingly to their mother, Micah, the girl’s older brother, was willing to do it.

“I know she was looking forward to it,” he said. “So, I thought, ‘Why not?’”

Mom was immensely touched by Micah’s display of kindness and love for his little sister.

“It was just so sweet to see them,” she said. “I think, like, by the end of it, when he lifted her up, I was just, like, ‘Aw.’ It just totally wrecked my heart in the best way. I don’t know if he realized what an impact, like, that is to show up for her, but that is something she’ll hold onto forever.”

Ephesians 4:32 “And be kind to one another, full of pity, having forgiveness for one another, even as God in Christ had forgiveness for you.”

NFL Player Demario Davis Shares Moving Testimony About God’s Faithfulness and Healing

Instead of immediately discussing and taking questions about the game that had just ended, one NFL player, New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis, talked about something else entirely. He shared his powerful and moving testimony about God’s faithfulness, love and healing power. Demario opened up about a recent and frightening incident with his young daughter and her battle with epilepsy.

Athletes, because of what they can do on the field and the court with ease, are somewhat looked at as more than human. Their athletic abilities allow them to effortlessly do things that most people can only dream of doing. But, at the end of the day, when the game clock hits zero and the final buzzer sounds, they are human beings, too. They experience trials, hardships and difficulties just like everyone else.

In a clip posted on YouTube, Demario shared an incident that proves this is indeed the case. The Saints player began his time at the podium by sharing Revelation 3:20: “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, then I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with me.”

“I want to tell ya about a knock I heard this week,” Demario said.

He said that his 4-year-old daughter had suffered her third epileptic seizure earlier in the week. This child has already been through a lot in her young life. Demario mentioned that she has also had a bout of cancer, beating retinoblastoma.

Demario noticed something was wrong with his daughter as she was playing at home with several friends. He and his wife called an ambulance, which rushed her to the hospital. Demario drove, following behind while his wife rode in the ambulance with their daughter.

After getting to the hospital, Demario says his wife told him that their daughter stopped breathing on the way to the hospital twice. The child’s seizure lasted for nearly 30 minutes.

At this point, Demario feared the worst.

“And at this point, if she seized for 30 minutes, you start to fear there could be development issues that could mess with her brain,” he said. “You know, she stopped breathing, if there was no oxygen going to her brain, you know, you starting to think about will her speech be slurred or anything.”

Demario and his wife continued praying, reaching out to the Lord on behalf of their little girl. Then, in the middle of the night, around 3 a.m., in the hospital room, Demario said he heard a knock.

“And the knock was my daughter,” he said. “I prayed for her; I said, ‘God, let this just be an attack from the enemy. It’s just trying to be a distraction and let him have overplayed his hand, and my daughter come back stronger than before.’”

Demario says that the knock was his daughter talking. What he heard amazed him. She was talking clearer than before the seizure, which is unusual. Demario adds that it typically takes a couple of days for people to return to their usual selves after a seizure.

“The next morning, when she got up, my daughter was so sharp,” he said. “She was able to talk to me and her mom. I mean, clear conversation. I mean, she’s sharp for a 4-year-old. No stuttering. All her words clear.”

Demario says that the Lord answered his prayer to protect his daughter through the seizure, to make her better than before and then some. He added that anyone who has something in their life should just lay before His feet.

“I just want people to know, like, if you’ve got stuff going on in your life, lay it before the Lord,” he said. “Lay it before the Lord and trust and be expecting of a knock because what the Word says is you have to get up and answer the door. He’s not going to open the door for you.”

Melissa McCarthy and Husband on What Makes Their Long-Term Marriage Work

Actress Melissa McCarthy and her husband, Ben Falcone, shared their secret and what makes their long-term marriage work. The couple let singer Kelly Clarkson in on the secret to their successful marriage during a recent appearance on her show, The Kelly Clarkson Show. The couple has been married for 19 years.

Marriage is, without a doubt, one of the best things in life. However, it’s also one of the most challenging things you’ll ever do. A marriage is a relationship between two flawed individuals who will not always see eye to eye on every topic and subject. This will, of course, lead to arguments and even heated disagreements. But at the end of the day, there is commitment there. These two people love one another and have agreed to remain together through whatever life may throw their way.

Hollywood is typically a place where marriages do not have the best success rate. Actors, actresses and musicians get married and divorced at a shocking frequency. But a handful of couples in Hollywood have beaten those odds, staying together for years, decades even. Melissa McCarthy and her husband, Ben, are one of those couples.

Melissa and Ben recently celebrated 19 years of marriage, and they told Kelly why they have outlasted other couples.

“Yeah, 19 years that is kind of amazing,” Melissa said.

“What’s the secret?” Kelly asked in a clip posted on YouTube.

“I do think, like, he makes me, like, crazy, crazy, crazy belly laugh probably three, four times a day,” Melissa said.

Then, Kelly decides to give the couple a test. She wants to see how well they know one another. She asks Ben and Melissa a series of questions and has them answer simultaneously.

Kelly asked about Melissa’s favorite vacation destination and the one thing that Ben does that really annoys Melissa. Their answers were mostly pretty similar, although there was some slight difference when naming her favorite vacation spot.

Genesis 2:24 “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall join to his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

16-Year-Old Surprised With Car Built by Late Father, and Breaks Down In Tears

A 16-year-old girl was surprised with a car built by her late father, and she had an emotional reaction, immediately breaking down in tears.

As sad and ironic as it may seem, death and loss are a part of life. Everyone has a limited window of time on Earth. No one will remain on this planet forever. Death is something that we will all experience at one time or another.

However, understanding that death is a part of life does not remove or lessen the sting of that loss. The hurt, grief and sorrow are still there. Losing someone like a spouse, a father, a mother or a dearly loved friend can and often does result in indescribable pain and heartache.

When someone close to us passes away, memories and time spent with them take on greater significance and meaning. Similarly, their possessions become incredibly valuable, ones we would not trade for the world. A clip posted on YouTube shows the emotional and completely understandable way one young woman reacted when she was gifted a car that her father had built on her birthday.

The short but tear-filled clip begins with the young woman exiting the house already in tears. Someone behind the camera states that “she sees it,” referring to the vehicle waiting for her in the front yard.

The video's text indicates that the tear-jerking moment was a dream come true for the 16-year-old. She had “dreamt of owning the Mustang her dad built years ago,” the text reads.

The video captures the teenager as she tearfully approaches the vehicle her father had built.

Later in the clip, the text also indicates that the teenager’s walking up to and getting into the Mustang is likely the culmination of a lot of hard work and determination on her family’s part.

“The car sat in a garage in Kentucky, and her family was able to track it down,” it reads.

What a heartbreaking but beautiful moment.

Revelation 21:4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

The Monster of Gadara

My impressions and thoughts inspired primarily by the Biblical historical accounts of the demon possessed man's encounter with Jesus Christ in the region of Gadara recorded in the Gospels: Matthew 8:28-34; Mark 5:1-21; Luke 8:26-40. Actor Andrew Garfield Shares His Beautiful and Heartbreaking View of Grief and Loss

Actor Andrew Garfield shared his beautiful and heartbreaking view of grief and loss.

Unfortunately, life is not all rainbows, roses, happiness and joy. At one time or another, likely on multiple occasions, we’ll all experience dark valleys and life’s storms. Grief, pain, loss and heartache are real, and they all hurt.

Sadly, these occurrences can become so intense and painful that they may feel like they will never end, that the hurt will never cease. Whenever one thinks about sadness, grief, sorrow and all the other emotions that typically come when we lose someone, it’s not usually thought of as a happy, joyous time.

But Andrew, in a conversation with Elmo, shares how and why he looks at the sadness he feels about losing his mother as a gift.

“You know that sadness, it’s kind of a gift,” he said. “It’s kind of a lovely thing to feel in a way because it means you really loved somebody when you miss them. And when I miss somebody, I remember, when I miss my mom, I remember all of the cuddles I used to get from her, all of the hugs I used to get from her.”

He adds how experiencing this sadness and thinking about these memories of his mother helps him feel even closer to her.

“And it makes me feel closer to her when I miss her, in a strange way,” he said. “So, I’m happy to have all the memories of my mom and the joy she brought me and the joy she brought my brother and my dad.”

Near the end of the clip, Andrew lets the popular puppet from Sesame Street in on a secret. Elmo was always his mother’s favorite on the beloved children’s program.

Revelation 21:4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

Phil Robertson’s Powerful Message on How Jesus Christ Brings Lasting Peace

Reality TV star Phil Robertson shared a powerful and moving message about how Jesus Christ brings true and lasting peace.

The world is a lost, broken and often lonely place. It’s filled with struggling and hurting people who cry out for something, anything, to provide them with even momentary relief. Sadly, people will and do search far and wide for comfort, healing and peace.

Peace is a concept foreign to the world and, personally, to most individuals. Everywhere we look – on the news, social media, and sadly, even in many families – peace is absent. But there is one who can bring a peace unlike any other, one that surpasses all understanding.

In a clip posted on social media, Phil Robertson, of Duck Dynasty fame, talks about this peace that many people do not have or even know of. It’s one that only Jesus Christ can bring about in someone’s heart and life.

“You’re never going to have peace of mind without Jesus Christ, ever,” Phil says from behind the pulpit while addressing a massive congregation. “It ain’t going to happen. Fits of rage, sexual immorality, hatred, discord, factions, envy, jealousy - you know the list of sins.”

Later in the clip, Phil talks about his life before and after he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He goes so far as to say that he was a “heathen” before Christ came into his heart and cleaned up his life.

“So, now I’ve been at this for 42,” Phil said. “Heathen for 28, son of God for the last 42. Trust me when I tell you, this last 42 has been way better than the first 28.”

As he indicates in his comments, Phil is an example of what 2 Corinthians mentions as being made a new creation in Christ. As that passage of Scripture points out, the old things have passed away, and everything has been made new.

Philippians 4:7 “And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ.”

Quick-Thinking Bus Driver Saves Little Girl Walking Alone in New York

A quick-thinking bus driver saved a little girl walking alone in New York City.

When most people hear the word heroes, they likely think of superheroes, largely thanks to Hollywood’s endless lineup of Marvel and DC movies. Still, others may even imagine athletes, actors and, for some reason, even politicians whenever hero, heroism or heroic is mentioned. Knowing that anyone would consider individuals who campaign for public office – big or small – to be heroes means that the meaning of that title has been significantly corrupted.

Heroes are people who look out for the welfare of others. They put others ahead of themselves and, at times, risk their safety and lives for someone else, even strangers. People who put a ball through a hoop, vote in Congress or work in the Oval Office are not even remotely heroes.

But Luis Jimenez is a hero, and his quick-thinking actions likely saved a 5-year-old girl from severe injury and possibly death.

According to a video posted on YouTube, Luis, a New York City bus driver, was simply doing his job when he noticed an unusual sight. He saw a young woman walking down the sidewalk in Manhattan by herself. The video states that Louis watched the little girl for a block or so and then told someone on the bus to call 911. He knew something was wrong.

After the call to 911, Louis stopped the bus, and he and other passengers had the child get on the bus, off the streets and away from possible harm.

“My instinct as a father came on,” Luis said. “If I see a kid in the street in need of help, I would want somebody to have to help one of my children.”

It turned out that Louis’s hunch about the young girl was correct. She had been reported missing from her school. The little lady was apparently on a mission, headed to a pet store to buy a fish to replace hers that had recently died.

Philippians 2:4 “Not looking everyone to his private good but keeping in mind the things of others.”

"Jesus Your Hometown Hero? or Your Hometown Zero?" by Bishop James Daughtry Th.D.

"Jesus Your Hometown Hero? or Your Hometown Zero?" A prophet is not honored by his relatives, hometown or own family; because of their unbelief, he couldn’t do any miracles among them except to heal a few sick folk because HIS Hometown's Faith in HIM was Zero! zero! zero! Mark 6:4 Then Jesus told them, “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family.” 5 And because of their unbelief, he couldn’t do any miracles among them except to place his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6 And he was amazed at their unbelief.

Grandfather Brightening His Neighborhood with Daily 'Dad Jokes'

We love dad jokes for one reason–they are delightfully cheesy. There’s something about the perfect balance between puns, eye-rolling humor, and predictability that makes them irresistible. But one man is taking it one step further. Instead of telling the hokes to his kids, this grandfather is brightening his neighborhood with daily ‘Dad Jokes.’

What makes dad jokes so endearing is that they aren’t trying too hard to be clever. They are essentially the comfort of comedy during our childhood years and beyond. In fact, my husband shares a dad joke every Friday during his work meetings with his team. Some of the newly married youngsters don’t quite get the jokes, while the older guys of the group chuckle and grin.

Some of his jokes have been taken from this grandfather who has been posting dad jokes in his hard for over a year. Like clockwork, he heads outside to change the joke and bring a fresh new bit of cheesy humor to those who drive by and see the sign. And it’s not just the neighborhood people who love it but also drive-by commuters who pass by his house as they eagerly await the next groan-worthy punch line.

Written under the title of Tom’s Bad Dad Jokes Of The Day, here are a few of the jokes he’s posted

“What do dads eat for breakfast? Pop Tarts.”

“Why was the coach yelling at the vending machine? He wanted his quarter back.”

“I ordered a chicken and an egg from Amazon. I’ll let you know,” meaning he wouold like you know if he could settle the debate of what came first, the chicken or the egg.

Dad jokes are a beautiful and humorous way that brings joy and can have a positive and uplifting effect in our lives and those around us. We hope Tom keeps posting jokes and all the dads out there continue to share their bad dad jokes. We love them!
